Life sucks at my house this today.

My wife went outside at 6:00 am today to discovered the front and rear windshield were smashed in with a baseball bat or a large rock.

Police took a report and I contaced my state farm agent, not sure what will be covered on the auto or homeowners policy.

We know who did it but lack the proof, waiting for police to contact the person for a statement.

Any advice on getting the window fixed by the Lexus dealer or should we go to a glass shop?

BOY THAT SUCKS!

A Few years ago I had a smash and grab in a shopping center parking lot. They smashed out passenger door glass and took radio out of my 300ZX and stole a few Christmas presents that were on the car seat. I also had State Farm.

Glass is covered by comprehensive, Zero deductible.
Radio covered by car insurance
Stolen presents covered by homeowners insurance

3 separate insurance claims.

Take it to Lexus if State Farm allows, otherwise you will get aftermarket glass. Local glass shop tried to install after market glass and the shape was very slightly off. They eventually installed OEM glass after State Farm approved it.

Definitely try for the OEM glass - not only shape, but it is coated glass for water shedding. These little OEM extra's are what make a Lexus a Lexus - insurance will argue that glass is glass (but hey, all cars are not alike, all glass is not alike).

I also have State Farm. My windshield broke a few years ago due to subzero temperatures. I had to pay my deductible and they would only pay for aftermarket glass. For OEM, I'd have to pay the difference which was more than $500.

Yup, policies do vary when it comes to glass. I had the rear window on my Audi Quattro smashed years ago (the defroster element spelled Quattro), and Pekin insurance put in OEM glass.

But I'm wondering now if the fine print on many of these policies don't specify exclusions when it comes to glass.

Agree with the others on the OEM glass and here is another reason. The second car radio antenna is embedded in the front windshield, many glass aftermarket manufacturers leave this out to reduce costs. Which mean insurers will argue for this. In addition, there are clips and connectors which are omitted by aftermarket installers...if this happens expects leaks and rattles a couple of years down the road.
