For your information ....my strong arm struts lasted 5 years; I just contacted Lift Support Depot about their warranty...they are sending me new struts for free and charged me $8 for shipping...nice to have a good company stand behind their product without any hassles....very cool!!!!

So, what is the proper action of these trunk struts? Are they supposed to lift the trunk for more than an inch upon unlatching and then from halfway up to full open automatically? After installing "PM1010 struts (with spoiler, $46/pair) manufactured by liftsupportsdepot.com" recommended here my trunk still opens only 1/4 inch, which barely allows inserting my fingers to get hold of the trunk lid. Is that normal?

How much it opens the trunk upon unlatch has been discussed on here. Consensus is yes enough to get your fingers in.

I know its just enough to get fingers in, but is it supposed to show a small gap between the lid and the trunk? My LS430 lid would visually move and have a one inch gap upon unlatching. Since I did not get my SC new I wonder if its trunk lid would have the same action as other Lexus models. I would find it very unusual given Lexus refinement that the lid doesn't show movement upon unlatching. Can some of you chime in as to how much amount (one inch, quarter inch, etc) your trunk lid actually rises when you unlatch it?

i think Cole was letting you know there is another thread where we all chimed in...to answer your question, yes, it moves slightly half inchish, then you must lift to almost halfway, struts do the rest.
all cars and models are different, my Trans Am just unlatches, my Accord opens several inches, my Civic halfway, my Odyssey would open itself.
Hope that helps. ;-)

I was looking for the thread and could not quite find it. If the lid moves half an inch then I think mine definitely comes short of that. But the rest of its action seems right.

i have to laugh because you are absolutely correct, I just measured the lid locked and lid unlocked and it moved 1mm. Others may move more due to quality of weatherstripping etc.
please measure yours and report back. Then we will have a nice comparison.

You know, the most important thing in all of this is to not have the trunk fall on our heads, ;-)

Mine moves about 1mm too and I am just getting too old to discern 1mm difference. Quite often, it became really inconvenient when I thought I unlocked the trunk and then I wasn't sure when I got close to my car. So, any of you out there that have your trunk lid rise close to or more than 13mm (about half an inch) upon unlocking the trunk please share with me which struts you have. Thanks.

Is yours an SC430? If so, I suggest you do a search and see if others had similar issues? If you cannot find anything on the forum you can start a thread so that others may be better able to help you.

he can't have an sc if he has a transfer case.

but to answer his question, no. They are two different components, even though they connect to each other. Just like the motor and transmission.

To answer the trunk pop question, yes, it barely budges when opened, even with new struts. Why? I have no idea.

That big trunk lid is heavy. They should have made it out of aluminum like the roof.
