Sc430 Seat Memory Initialization Again 6 replies to this topic
For the second time my sc430 has lost the ability to memorize the seat positions. Happened when brand new and happened again today after the dealer disconnected it to replace the carpet. Service dept no help on phone - want me to go back in, but it's time and distance. I know there is a way to re-set the seat program so it will "learn" again. Usually it's done when the car is new and doesnt have to be done again. When I try to set my seat positions nothing happens - no beep - no nothing. Yes, I'm holding it for three seconds with the car in park and my foot off the break. HELP

Do you hear a beeping when the seats are being adjusted to the rear? If you do then:
After removing power from the car (the battery) the seats must be put through a full range of motion before the seat memory will work correctly: Move the seat position control switch forward until a beeping sound is emitted. Then move the seatback angle switch forward until a beeping sound is emitted. Do this for both seats.
Now you can set the seat memories normally.
For some reason the SC seat computers need to "learn" what the full range of motion after the power is removed. I've never figured that one out.

For the seats to return to their programmed positions reliably, the the processor needs to know where the seats are in their travel. The only ways to keep up with positions of motors that can turn continuously is to either use an encoder on the end of the motor that counts revolutions, have encoders on the seat themselves, or they need to find their "home" positions by going to the farthest ends of travel in both directions, then count steps in between. The latter method is how the Lexus seats work. It's a reliable method as long as the processor doesn't forget the home positions, which happens when the battery is disconnected.
