Glad everyone was okay from the wreck, physically anyway. Your car shows amazingly little damage for a 35 mph headon wreck though. Be sure to go over it with a fine tooth comb though so they don't miss anything. I'm glad you got it back so quickly, though it probably seemed like an eternity that it was gone.

Been researching this issue.

Looking at some info on airbag deployment, there are 2 sensors, one on the front bumper and one I think at the cluster unit (Do not quote me, have not spent a lot of time on this).

Have not figured out how the sensors detect a bump for it to deploy.

The airbags will not deploy unless a series of events are detected, is all I can say.

In my case, perhaps the Ford Escort climbed on my bumper and as a result did not actuate the sensor behind the absorber. I think a 7G has to be detected (do not quote me).

I am still digging into it.

I know for a fact that when we start our car, the Airbag system goes through a check cycle and the airbag lights go off, meaning all sensors are a GO.
Mandy,

I'm a Lieutenant on Barre Town Fire Department in Vermont and specialize in auto accidents!

Airbags have two types of sensors:

1. IMPACT = collision crushed enough of your car to actually damage the sensor and therefore set off the airbag/s. (Your car did not look bad enough for that)

2. DECELERATION = collision caused the vehicle to stop suddenly enough for the ball bearing attached to the magnet in the sensor released the ball bearing therefore setting off the airbag/s. (Again...you probably weren’t going fast enough combined with the deformation of both vehicles to set that sensor off)

Bob, do you mean the Luxlink V2 with the Rr Window mod and Alarm Upgrade?

Yes it is next. I will be relying heavily on your DIY. By the way any refreshed version yet?

The LL came in the day before the accident, you can imagine how I felt.

Not sure where you are going with this since we all drive on the same roads and are subject to the same circumstances as any driver. So here's what I've seen lately:

- People driving in the wrong lane
- Buses driving into parked SC's

Seems the drivers had little to do with the outcomes of these.......

Good luck or bad, I'll take my chances in the SC!

Be careful out there!

Best thing out of this incident is you and your wife are OK. You have your SC back and it looks like the did a nice job on the repair. Install the LL, drop the top and enjoy it all over again.

I'm very late to the scene, but Mandy I'm so glad to hear you are ok. Cars are cars, they come and go. You will get your baby looking perfect in no time. Maybe some extra upgrades for you for pain and suffering? Still plenty of top down days in the ATL during football season!

Also I'm so glad they didn't try to paint the grill lip that is nickel-silver colored the same color as the bumper. You see this all the time on SC's that have had paintwork and it drives me nuts! A buddy of mine to dabbles in cars calls me when he is looking at SC's and was amazed that I knew that. It's really common on even good shops...for some reason the feel the need to paint that lip white or the body color.

Looks great Mandy...drive and enjoy!

Mandy,

Looks like my car's sister has got a nice face lift. Those new contacts look really sweet and with the laser wrinkle/freckle work done...she looks 10 years younger...LOL!

I must admit I was tired of polishing the headlamps to make it look like new.

Now they are new.

Plus she is rock chips free and will try to keep it that way.

Thank you guys for all your good wishes.

Now you can imagine the restraint I had to not post anything until the car was back. That was something else.
