Default How To Read Previously Cleared Check Engine Fault Codes

I am the market for an older SC430 and I have noticed dealers will often try to hide issues by clearing Check Engine Light using the OBDII tool.

I am wondering if I can use an OBDII tool to view fault codes which have come up on the car previously, but have recently been cleared. I do have an OBDII tool from Pep Boys.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Once they're cleared from memory, they are gone and not retrieveable with OtheC OBDII readers. But if you're looking for a dealer history report from lexus all you need is the VIN then go to http://drivers.lexus.com

If the car was maintained at a Lexus Dealer the history can be found there.
