Sc430 trunk and fuel door buttons are not working
Both my interior trunk and fuel door button stopped working on the same day. I had some LED lights added to my car last week and I think it might have something to do with it. Anyone know if those switches are tied to any fuses...I looked at the fuses inside the trunk labeled fuel door and trunk lock but they were fine. The trunk is not opening with the key FOB either.
Any help would be much appreciated....
Also the tech that installed the lights did not cut any wires or anything.

sounds like a fuse problem since both the trunk and fuel door buttons don't work. there may be another location for the fuses besides the trunk, our cars have a few fuse boxes. i would check the one inside the passenger foot well. this one houses a lot of the fuses for functions inside the car.

There is a fuse box inside the trunk, floor rear, driver's side. Pull up false floor panel, open the black cover and you'll see three columns of fuses. Top right corner (column 3 L to R) red 10 Amp fuse covers the fuel door opener switch.

For the trunk release go to the passenger side junction box, (passenger kick panel below the glove box) remove the door cover and check all three MPX fuses (b1, b2 and most likely suspect b3) All three fuses are in the 2nd column (column #1 only has one fuse).

Sc430 Trunk/Fuel Filler buttons not working
On my 2005 SC430, it is intermittent with the car off and no key in the ignition.
Sometimes the dash buttons work, sometimes they don't.
Same thing with the Key Fob to open the trunk -- when it doesn't work, I get a beep and no trunk operation.
The valet switch is set correctly -- and resetting it doesn't always seem to clear the problem.
When I start the car -- both the fuel button and the trunk button then work.
I disconnected both switches and sprayed in some electrical contact cleaner -- everything then worked for a good 10 cycles or so.
I then drove 10 miles and the problem reappeared -- I could only operate the buttons when the car was running.
Anybody have any ideas?
I tested the valet switch on an ohm meter and it was operating properly. I also shorted together the wires on the valet switch -- and the problem was still there.
I see some people talking about adding an extra ground wire? Where is this done?
Thanks,
Robert

Sounds like an intermittent ground issue, or more likely low voltage at the battery. Have you measured voltage at the battery? And with your description, low voltage is my first guess. See post #15 below.

Luggage and fuel door releases circuits use IG, IH & II ground points on the
diagram below and point BL under the driver’s seat.
Now it’s for my 02, but should be good for your 05.
