Share a few thoughts
Hello,
first let me say, I have been reading the forum for a few years now and has been most helpful several times.
A "thank you" to all of you for your time, effort and sharing of knowledge
We have 02 Absolutley Red SC and love it....umm let me be clear...my wifes car....as I have been told several times.
Thought I would start doing some posting myself, starting with a few
experiences to share.
1.) Had a very strange ding da ding noise that would happen on rare occasion while on the highway and it would sound like it was coming from the right front engine area. First thought was something was hanging down and making contact with the exhaust,it would come and go, finally I put it on ramps and starting looking around and what I found was there is a metal "A" frame which is protected by a shield right in front of the transmission, there were 2 large stones that were on top of the shield and would become lodged between the A frame the plastic shield, which then in turn would create the strange ding da ding noise. Seems to be an area that when the right circumstance happens can be a holding spot for stones. When tapping on the bottom of the shield I heard the strange ding noise, simply dropped the back part of the sheild and removed the stones and problem solved.
2.) At 47,500 miles I am in the process of changing out all fluids. I recently changed the transmission fluid using this method: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ion-flush.html worked great and I changed out 9 quarts. The trans oil cooler line is the same on the 430. The T-IV was in good shape, just tint of Redish Brown and no burnt smell. Couple of points with the procedure.....it will pump out a quart in about 8 seconds after each start. It is hard too stop at exactly a quart mark, take note of how far past your marks you go each time to add that amount back in at the end of procedure. Trans runs great ! Will do it every 30,000 miles.
Gotta run for now, Take care

MH6-welcome and thanks for your post and tips!
I absolutely love the absolutely red! My first baby...02 red/ecru pampered with 29k when I sold her last summer.
I couldn't agree more about the necessity to change the ATF, and that's great news that yours was in tip top shape. Very strange about the rocks...must have kicked some up into that pan when you drove over a dirt road????
I've had some cars that are real fluid hogs like RX-7's (who notoriously burn extra oil and trans/rear diffs have huge tanks) and after having them I couldn't agree more on the importance to keep your fluids fresh, filled and flushed. In fact, I'd recommend (other than the Type IV tranny fluid) Redline Synthetics for all fluids you can. Redline even makes a "water wetter" for hot climate areas like where I live in Texas that is proven to reduce the coolant temperature by 30 degrees with it's technology.

Hi, MH6. I am fairly new here as well and have found this community full of knowledge and insight. Appreciate your post about the stones.
Found the link in your second item didn't work for me for some reason. I think this is the post you referenced:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ion-flush.html I haven't tried this myself since my ATF was recently serviced but it's good to know it was effective for you.

Thanks for the welcome

I suspect we picked up the rocks from on-post (Ft.Cambell) they have those types of rocks all over the place. The "A" frame I was referring to is hollow, which adds to the strange dinging noise.
I will do some research about the Redline products...thanks for the suggestion.

I fixed the above link, should be correct now...thanks for letting me know.
