Buddy, trashing your own thread! Must be the heat. I've nitrogen in the ES for some time. Got it first for free from a Toyota dealer near me. Then when I got new tires like 10k ago I told them I wanted it put in when they replaced the tires. (Lexus dealer) I guess they must have put it in cause I haven't added any since then. Come to think of it, maybe I should go check it now. Haven't really noticed anything other than not adding any air or whatever.

the tires

I see a flucuation of 6 lbs from summer to winter with just air. I also have a lsow leak on my rear left tire. I was told nitrogen is less likely to flucuate as much as reg air and since its more dense i may slow up the slow leak.

I have nitrogen in my motorcycle tires and . They also are more stable as far as air pressure and they run cooler according to my tpms on my bike.

I see a 6-8lb fluctuation between winter and summer as well as hot to cold tire temperature. Despite new tires and rims and unlimited trips to the tire shop for air adjustments (they think I'm psycho now) I've lived with the fact that they just do that.

Perhaps the extreme temps do this? I'm curious as to if San Diego SC'ers have this problem or other areas that are more mild? Seems like even in the NE this summer it's been extreme heat though. I wonder if the extreme swings in temps cause the tires to lose a little each time they expand/contract with the temps?

I've over-thought this -
Let's assume you have to let the "air" out of the tire to put nitrogen in.
Well, you really didn't let the "air" out - you reduced the pressure inside the tire to "zero".
"Zero" isn't really "zero", it's roughly 14.696 psi, or one atmsophere.
Nitrogen is added until the tire pressure reaches 33-34 psi or so.
As someone earlier stated, "air" is already 78% nitrogen, and I'm adding 99.99% pure nitrogen.
and on & on.
Hopefully there's a real physicist here that can correct this, but how much difference can there really be?

Rule of thumb is one pound for every ten degrees F.

Get a small compressor for topping off tires. I have a Black and Decker Air Station that I have used for years. The gauge reads way high but it inflates fine.

I have Nitrogen filled tires and have not had to put "air" in them for 9 months since they were installed new. Just recently saw the left front needing a pound or so. I too have a B&D Air Station, the thing is awesome. I see a couple of Psi difference between summer and winter when cold. 4-5 Psi increase over cold pressure when warm on the road.

I use the Orange Electronics TPMS so every time the car starts we get a continuous reading of the pressure.
