Default SC430 slower than IS350!!

I have both cars, and for some reason I dont understand, the sc430 is slower. Its only 500lb heavier, and its a v8 rather than v6. How come it isnt as fast? When I mean slower, I mean the acceleration

Just guessing but, several reasons are possible:
gearing
weight
tranny set-up

the Sc is not sold for straight line excelleration.

FACTS:

1. SC weighs 273 lbs more.
2. SC has 18 less HPs
3. SC has a 0.02 higher Aerodynamic Drag Coefficient (0.03 higher on models w/o the rear spoiler)

4. SC is ONLY 1/5 of a second slower in 0-60

You mean 4/5 of a second slower?

The IS350 gets it done in about 5.1sec to 5.3sec. The SC430 needs about 5.9sec to 6.2sec.

A better comparison would be between the IS350 and the GS430, which does 0-60mph in mid. 5 sec. range. It's hard to believe that the SC is even heavier than the GS.

No, I don't.

Going by the official Lexus website, it is 1/5 of a second

SC430 - 5.8 sec
IS350 - 5.6 sec

5.8 -5.6 = 0.2
1/5 = 0.2

Now, what I don't know is if those number they state are accurate.

Are you factoring in all IS350 have recalled engines for valve springs which causes stalling while driving? That has gotta be worth 1/5 of a second.

I too have both in stock form (05 SC and 06 IS350), and I can definitely say that the IS350 is much quicker than the .2 sec Lexus is/was stating. Also, Car And Driver or Road And Track, I can't remember which, clocked the IS350 to 60 in 4.9 sec. Never had the stalling issue, but will definitely check up (Thanks KaiserSea1 for heads up).

Even my certified pre-owned 08 Toyota Rav4 I purchased last month "feels" faster than my SC430! But what "feels" and what "is" are 2 different things.

It could also just be at certain speeds it is faster (the speeds where we most likey accelerate at). Acceleration feels more linear with my Rav4 than my SC430 - this is where the Blitz Throttle Controller will come in handy

Nearly every modern performance V6 from the Accord to Genesis Coupe is as fast or faster than the SC430. Forget about the little Subbies and Mitsus with 4cyl turbos. In 2001 when it was released it was a very fast car. In 2010 with identical performance it has adequate acceleration. The drivetrain is outdated. The car had a tape deck until recently. When you get to drive a hardtop convertable with a great interior and ride, undying reliability, and great looks, you forgive a lot knowing you paid less than a new Civic

^ ++1. It's not feel - it's a fact. The IS350 has a more powerful engine, is lighter and maybe even better trans (the trans in terms of SC 02-05). As Kaiser already stated in his other threads, his SC430 having a hard time keeping up with his LS430 (racing his wife). The SC (in stock form) will be dusted if it try to race with the IS350 at a stop light and it will be way more than a length of a car by a 1/4 mile. Our SC is really a no match for the semi-high power modern sport sedan (BMW 335i, IS350, and G37).

Why is that though? On paper the stats look about equal, but in reality its much different. Shouldnt that not be the case? Or did Lexus just record their times differently for each car? Stats should be stats, not open to interpretation
