Well the Lexus parts catalog calls it "weatherstrip FR Door" so it sounds like you're screwed under the Body and Interior category. But the cost is only about $50 bucks ....Is that a DIY job?

It's hard to tell from the photo at the beginning of the thread but it looks like the tear is in Weather strip #2 which is part of the outside mirror assembly.
I've attached the exploded component diagram of the SC 430 door.
If you are going to take this project on yourself I can add the overhaul instructions. Hope this helps.

I have both the right and left on order. Bob, I'd love to have any instructions that you have regarding the renewal process, thanks! I ended up paying about $41 ea.

I had mine done under original warranty, the part was $45 or so, but if I was outside of warranty I'd have tried the Permatex route. Labor was a couple of hours I think...

Thanks, bob, for the pdf's. They don't detail the specific rear view mirror weather stripping but they do help with getting most of the way to it. I'll wait until I get my replacements and judge how to proceed once I have them in hand. I'll take a few pictures of the process and follow up with a post after I'm finished. The pdf's do show how to adjust the window glass and that's a key to getting a good airtight seal against the body weather stripping. I'll be examining that very closely as well. Again, Thanks!

rear view mirror weather stripping? Isn't that on the door component pdf ...labeled at weather stripping #2 page 2, step #7 in the overhaul pdf

I took a close look at my 2002...it does show some wear in that piece too, but not a tear. So I will be very interested in your step by step analysis of the repair.

Any ideas as to how difficult it is to change the weather-stripping out? (Anyone with diagrams out there?)
My dealer said that he didn't think that it was covered by the platinum warranty but I'm double checking.

I just checked Sewell parts online and they have them listed at $50.62. Where did you get yours from?

I used "Liquid Tape" from Lowes to fix this. About $5. Very flexible rubber that I have used successfully for some wiring changes underneath our landscaping fountain.
I put some blue masking tape on the top edge of the window where the split is and then coated the split with the Liquid Tape. Dries in about 10 minutes.

Just thought I'd try a different (cheap & easy) approach before I dig into the workings of my window assembly. Seems to be working fine.
