does anyone know what generation the 2006 is? I know my cd player will not play mp3's so I am thinking its not a gen 4-5? the reason I am asking is because I want to install a ipod connection to my car and I see the Vais setups say without a gen 5 setup you do not get the playlist or info on the nav screen??? can anyone with a 06 with the Vais sLi2 confirm this or if I am reading this correctly the other option they have is the SLS (better?) system they offer does support text on the 06 nav screen? maybe someone knows an even better setup than Vais??? also I already have xm radio in it and thought maybe there was an ipod connection somewhere but, of course the dealer didn't know anything .....

This topic has been discussed very extensively on the CL forum. I'd recommend doing a search and read up on all the Vais units vs others. There are several choices.

Most dealers do not do the Vais Unit, but some are starting to offer it. Go to www.parkplacetexas.com and check out what they have. They are one dealer here in Tx that sells them. I am actually in the market as well for one and checking with them to see what they charge to install.

I am in the market for an ipod adapter as well. A lot of CL members have the Vais Tech unit...the SL2I charges, controls by steering wheel and shows up on the 2005-2009 nav. Not sure about your XM question. Several folks have the Soundgate one too.

I have a 2005. The 2005-2009 SC nav systems are all the same. We have Gen 4.

Thanks guys I am going to a little reading of the links you have sent, then stop by the electronics place I saw yesterday and see what they recomend, this site is great as I have learned so much ! btw scdroptop, do you know forsure that the SL2i has the info show up on the nav screen? thats my greatest consern, my eyes are getting really bad and the last thing I want to do is crash trying to read the tiny screen on the ipod......... oh the joys of old age !

 

Yes I just got an email from the vendor confirming that on the 2005-2009 nav units it does show up
