Hi everyone! I just had to have my driver side headlight assembly replaced in my 2009 SC430. For the first time, the AFS was unmistakable. When turning left, I saw the light beams turn left and then back to center. This made me think it had probably not been working before I got the whole light replaced. Now, I'm aware that I don't see any movement on the passenger side.
As the original poster -- almost exactly nine years ago! -- I think what you are seeing is perfectly normal. The diagram above is very instructive.

It's a like a feature "Q" might have added to a vehicle he was giving James Bond for his next assignment.
One of Clarke's three laws: "Technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic"
you should ask your mechanic to check and adjust the headlight alignment if you think it is off.
There are two adjusting screws, one for the horizontal, the other for the vertical.
