Its good to know we can DIY on this instead of getting new seat/leather - very hard to find a "good conditon Driver seat"

 

It was the typical worn out, multi-lines with grit on them. But now no more.

 

Better believe it. 5 hours in the masking phase. I was beat.

 

It was a slow process. Multi layers of paint. A lot of patience. I would pay top dollar for a PRO to do this. Was just too time consuming. And not being a pro painter, had my doubts on the first spray, when it starts spewing out blobs of paint, PANIC will set in.

 

After reading all the posts on this topic, I finally took the plunge. Got the correct SEM paint and waited for a nice low humidity day to do the job. Prep time was long but it was well worth it. Can't believe the difference.

 

I just used the SEM 15003 on my Leather Ecru interior console and left edge of the drivers seat bottom...and it is an excellent product that produces a nearly perfect match as long as your leather is clean. If your seats are really worn and somewhat dirty, it will appear a little lighter than areas left unfinished. I masked of the leather "panel" along the edge of the seat, draped a few towels over the surrounding areas to prevent overspray and lightly misted a few quick coats onto the seat with excellent results. Also, when having my oil changed today one of the guys had a blue ink pen in his pocket with which he managed to mark up my interior in 3 small areas! At two of the areas, I was able to get them cleaned off but the console finish came off in a spot where I was cleaning it up. Since my interior was nearly flawless until this all happened I was not happy! So what did I do? I came to the forum for information of course. To fix this remaining discolored area, I removed the top padded leather portion of the console and lightly sprayed/blended the SEM paint with the leather finish on the console and the result is almost flawless. I did not think I could get the console blemish fixed but it is very difficult to tell where it was at this point. I recommend this stuff if you have a minor interior touch up. Just take your time, follow the instructions, and be careful and spray light coats. You should be rewarded with a good result.

just wanted to update this procedure. Talked to a tech at sem and color coat is not the product to use on leather..i know now because it is flaking off!
He said that it will eventually start to get small cracks and begin to peel off....exactly what is happening to me......now i have a mess on my hands.....he suggested i try to "lift off" with 2' masking tape and if all fails use lacquer thinner on a rag and proceed with care.....could be a leather killer!
He said the product should have been sure coat and use a 1500 custom mix.
Use sem leather prep prior and the results would have been correct
all i can say to anyone who decides to use color coat is don't! I would like to know the people that used color coat, what their seats look like after a year?

Anyone who has done this.. do I have to do the entire seat or can I do just the one panel (left edge of driver seat) that needs help?
