I just found out over the weekend that there is an amber light on the dash telling me I have a brake light out.

I never realized you could have the door mirrors drop when you put the car into reverse .

Did you know you can turn off the ASL (Auto Sound Level)? This thing used to irritate the heck out of me. Glad I found out how to shut it off.

Winter time is when you find out your struts are going. They are fairly easy and cheap to replace. Quite dangerous if you ignore it, bet you couple of heads have been hit with the trunk falling.

I thought "Holy crap that was cool". So now my question is, is this a feature or do I need new trunk shocks?

Great thread - glad I finally took the time tonight to read it start-to-finish! I learned a few more things about the SC I wasn't aware of...

I might have discovered something - I noticed at my last fill-up that my average mpg reading on the display was reading 12 mpg, where before it had been showing in the low 20's ever since I reset it upon my Mar 2018 purchase (~4,000 miles ago). I sure don't remember resetting it on purpose, but now that I think about it the coiled charging cable for my phone (on my magnetic vent holder) might have accidentally pressed against the "Trip Info" button long enough to reset. Has anyone else noticed this resetting itself? I admit that I didn't do a CL search for this just yet as I hoped that someone might have mentioned it in this thread.

I wonder if the MPG resets automatically every X miles? The only reason I bring this up is that on my RX400h, the GPS display showing miles traveled since reset along with the regenerative/5-miles average MPG bar-graph screen seems to reset itself back to 0 miles when it reaches 7,000 miles...I've noticed this on multiple occasions...

Other things I've noticed that I'd like to mention:
  • The PWR/ECT/SNOW button is not backlight like the adjacent VSC button - I assume it should be and that one bulb is burned out. As I'll be removing the console soon to replace my cupholder assembly I'll replace it then.
  • The ODO/TRIP and RESET buttons - I assume the words/letters themselves (not the actual buttons) are not backlit from behind?
  • I also realized that you can remove just the ashtray piece (DUH, but I don't smoke) which makes for a slightly bigger cubbyhole for holding sunglasses, USB cable, etc.

For the MPG, it will reset every time you refill your tank, I might be wrong, but that I am experiencing.
Those buttons are not backlight or backlit.
Yes, I also removed the astray to have more room for charger, etc....

I found out this morning, while backing down my snow covered driveway, that ABS doesn't work in reverse.

The mpg value is reset by holding the display button for it down for a few seconds, at least that's true for the 2002 that I have. I don't know if later versions key off of the gas door to reset.

^^ Agree, mine is the same way, also noted in the owner's manual. So I either reset it accidentally, or the computer does auto-reset after X miles (or perhaps X days, though I doubt it).

I wash and clean mine twice a month and my wife complains that I was too obsessed with it.

I didn’t know there was an iPod interface kit for the 2008-2010 SC430s.
check your glovebox for an audio connection.

Wait! Is there any difference between the 2007 and 2008 & 2009?
Actually, I do not need this item. My 20 dollar Monster cassette adapter works fine with any music player. I’m happy.

I discovered yesterday that cars coming from Florida don't use anti-freeze windshield washer. My lines froze solid.

After it was warmed up enough in the garage, I pumped enough of the old stuff through to add half a gallon of anti-freeze. Hopefully that will work. In the process, I also found out that only one of my headlight washers works. Not sure what to do about that, if anything.

Zero degree Windshield washer fluid at Wallyworld works, cheaper too. I use this fluid to defrost my windshield and rear and side mirrors. Reasonably priced.
