Thumbs up Drivers seat foam degregdation

Following a past thread on Seat Problems.

I complained to Lexus about the drivers seat in my 02 SC giving me a butt ache.

Lexus has the car and today reported that the drivers cushion which is a seperate foam piece that can be ordered ($132.00 ) was degrading in foam density and was replaced under extended warranty.
Any of you that have the problem with either hi miles or early year production SC cars can get relief now. My tech called today and advised me that whoever sits in the passenger seat will now want to drive.........big difference between the two........considering most of my travel no one sits there I suspect that in the early cars the foam was not up to par or just in time degrades regardless.
Once I get the PN back from the invoice I will share whatever info is needed to the rest of the forum.

Thanks for sharing the info. It has never occurred to me that the foam can be problematic .

Since I have had the SC from day 1 and mile 1 I was able to do the drive from Atlanta to Sarasota almost non stop..........gas and me et al stops.

About 2 years ago I found my butt hurting and thought it was nothing more than turning 60 or the run flats..........tires came off and still no relief.

I did a 2 hour run in a Yukon and another 6 hours in a Range Rover with no problems and then it hit me ...........the SC seat..............all I am able to do is about 90 minutes without pain..........

Now , once I get it back I hope that the drive I do .........2 hours up I-75 and back non stop will be the remedy......if not, it is ME.

Default labor and parts?

Hello Falcon1, I too am trying to get my driver seat only re-leatherd and re-foamed.

You are soo right, sitting on the passenger seat compared to sitting on the driver seat is Night and Day. the Passenger seat is sooooo much more comfortable and 100% more supportive. No one hardly sits in the passenger seat, but I would love to have my driver seat feel "very New" again.

How much did Lexus dealer charge you.
and can you find out about price on re-leather'ing' just the driver seat also?

Part #'s.....

total cost of Labor....etc.....

I want to give my Lexus dealer as much info, since I'm probably the first
to give this much attention to it to them.

once again, thank you and keep us informed.

p.s. you are a "back savior"

Thumbs up

Drivers seat NOW feels like it did when it was new. Lexus covered the whole entire cost of parts and labor under "Good Will". I found out that Lexus gives it 5 Star Dealers in the area a Goodwill fund to do with it during the year for events like this.

I recall the seat foam insert alone is about $150.00 and labor ran about $500 to do the entire seat. Just doing the cushion should not be that much though.

Here are the parts and PN's as requested that were replaced.

71440-24400-A0- Back Assembly Front seat
71512-24050-PAD front seat cushion
71072-24410 A0-Cover sub assembly Front
71620-24040-Spring assembly FR-S

Basically, they put a whole new seat frame , leather and airbags in the car.

Lexus took care of this problem and did advise me that only one other owner complained on a 07 model and had his cushion replaced with memory foam.
Lexus sent this out to the outsourced custom shop they use and it was back in one business day....................after the holidays I am going to have the cushion only replaced on the passenger seat. Even though it does not get that much use we all could feel the difference between the two.......like night and day.

Suggestion- Go into a dealership that has a new model on the floor and sit in that seat for 5 mins and then go back to yours.........foam, like any other chemical formaton I guess degrades in time with its supportive properties.

Any more questions let me know.
