First, I hope I didn't offend with the hairy-chested, medallion-wearing comment. It is a stereotype...and it's not always deserved.

Second, I couldn't agree more about the mid-60's Corvette roadsters! Wow, talk about one of the coolest tooling-around-town cars! And, you can get one of those (not quite concourse-quality) for around the price of a new or <2 year old one.

I know you were kidding.

Look up the online pictures of any Corvette Club and you'll see what we enthusiast owners really look like. It ain't pretty, for the most part.

I own a vette and I agree with everything said here.

The two are not comparable. One is rough riding, noisy, cheaply made inside and fast. The other is smooth, quiet, well-appointed and comparatively slow.

What are you looking for?

BTW, who told you the 2005's were the best? Some very poor information. Get the latest model you can, preferably the 2008 with the leather-wrapped interior.

I totally agree. The first described is the Vette, and the second is the SC430. The choice is what you're mostly into, either power or class.

Default 08 Vette Coupe vs 05 SC

I traded in my 05 for a 08 Vette last March and can give you my impression. I thought the 05 was too slow to downshift so really enjoy the power of the Vette which is actually scary until you get use to it. The Vette rides as well as most sedans, really, about the same as the SC without runflats. But you do get road noise on rough surface roads. The engine is quiet and smooth unless you get on it but not as smooth or quiet as the SC and idle is just ok. The steering is far more sharper and quicker than the SC and that is the main reason I traded the SC. It also leaned too much in the corners. I find the seats more comfortable in the Vette for me. Visibility in the coupe is also much better. Fuel economy is almost identical and I run regular gas. Looks wise I think the SC is classier and I used to go out to the garage just to look at it though from some angles it is a little strange. I get more positive comments on the Vette. Reliability is not an issue anymore with any car. I also love the sat radio and onstar, heads up display and extra guages. I really have no issues with the Vette, it exceeded my expectations. The car is better than its image.

I'm one more Vette owner who tried earlier this year to buy a 2008 SC430. I mean my wife and I REALLY tried. We looked at alot of them, test drove 3 different ones but just couldn't "pull the trigger". Our IS350 with all of it's technology that is not yet available on the SC spoiled us. What? No push button start? (We got spoiled real fast on that) Etc., etc., etc. So.....we just waited and waited. Then one day we stopped by the Chev. dealer and drove a 6 speed manual Coupe. We pushed that start button and the dual mode exhaust burbled; we looked at each other and that was that. It is now in our garage next to our 2000 Corvette and our IS350. Oh yes, our gold chains and medallions are right next to the key fob. Use 'em every time we crawl in one of the Vettes. Made the mistake of wearing the chain in the Lexus the other day. I looked SO ridiculous!

Do we still look at the SC's every time one drives by or we see one in a parking lot? Yup. They are refined, well engineered, beautiful machines. Do we love the '08 Vette? Every time we shift through the gears!!
