Using key to close/open convertible top??
SC430ers,
I am not sure if any of you tried this before.
I tried to close the top by locking and holding key on lock position on the drive side door, but it didn't work.
My friend's 330ci works that way.
I heard 996cab also has that feature.
I am not sure if CLK, SLK has it.
I think it'd be cool to be able to do that.
or from the car key remotely
Imagine this, as you approach your car, you hit unlock button and keep pressing it down to open the top -> how cool is that
side note:
I found out that a few sec after you first hold the open button to open the top, if you decided not to open, you can just release the button and it will slowly go back to close position (safety feature ??). I haven't play around with this to see how it works in different open/close positions.

But it didn't close completely, leaving a 1/2" gap and beeped at me every few seconds. I had to pull over and finish the job.
Not too much of an annoyance. I'm not sure that the same thing doesn't happen when you abort a drop-top maneuver and take off.
Worth nothing and is also stated in the manual... the key and remote both can open and close both windows. E.g., press unlock once; then press and hold unlock until windows roll down to desired level. A nice feature if you are walking up to the car on a hot sunny day and want to get a head start on cooling the interior. (Unfortunately to close windows, you must physically insert key into keyhold and hold in lock position; e.g., closing via remote not possible)
All the german cars have neat stuff like that. I dont think Lexus ommitted it for anything other then safety. German cars have been doing their own thing for years. i.e. wondows going all the way down in the back (many cars are blocked by space though) windows up, which used to be illegal, but the luxury car manufacturers get away with it. If you really wanted to you could get an aftermarket alarm installed and im sure they could hook the top up-down to a remote.
