Default Navigation Hood

Again, today I was driving around in the sun, with the top down of course, and trying to look at my navigation screen and with a piece of cardboard held over the top edge, I could see the map. I am thinking about making some kind of hood that I could temporarily use on occasion and store in the console.

Material for a hood? Heavy black paper, thin black plastic sheet material. black vinyl sheet, thin piece of sheet aluminum painted black etc.

Design: It would need to slip under the navigation screen frame (in the space that allows the display to tilt) and on top of the LCD display but not damage the tilt mechanism if that button were pressed. Might need a partial side panel or panels. Probably would not have to be more than three inches in depth. Oh this might depend on the time of day the hood would be used.

Anyone else thought about this idea? Do you have any suggestions for the material and design?

Before you go this route have you tried changing the color settings? Or taking off the reflective purple coating on the screen?
