Default Dual zone climate control

So if the drivers side is set to 85 and the passenger's side is set to 60, will the heat and A/C be on simultaneously?

I tried this tonight but it was so cold outside that I couldn't really get an answer. The reason I am interested in this is because when I drive alone in the Fall with the top down, I like to have the heater on at the feet, but was trying to figure out some way to not waste heat on the passenger's side since there is no passenger.

I have never heard of "wasting heat." Is there a difference between blowing out one side or both sides?

The hot air just comes from the engine area where the air has been warmed by the engine. Your car will not be loosing any gas or anything by having the heater on, or as far as I know.

Anyone else have any input?

Never did get answered, really. Will the Lexus run a/c to one side and heat to the other?
