Diminished Car Value
My car (yet again) has been hit. This time its a lot worse and I am sure this will have an effect on my car's value. Does anyone know where I can find a site that can calculate the difference of my car value now? I have been doing some poking around myself and can't find anything useful. Any suggestions would be great.
I doubt there is such a site since every accident is different. Although it would be difficult without a lawsuit, the reduction in value from being in a crash is something you should be compensated for when negotiating a settlement with the insurance company. What you really need is an "expert witness" who will look at your car and provide an opinion of the reduction in value given the extent of the damage.
I got an extra good deal on my SC430 because CarFax indicated a crash. I got some details and went behind the dealer's back to get the police reports, repair documents, and even interviewed the driver. Everything confirmed that it was a tiny rip to the rear bump during stop/go traffic. But even with such minor damage, the CarFax crash report made the car harder to sell for the dealer.

I had a similar thing happen. When I sold the car (two years or so) after the accident, I went back to the insurance company and said that they never kept me whole. I only got X for the sale of the car, but the value was Y and they should pay the difference. There was 'issues' proving the vale differnce but we did make a fair settlement.
You haven't loss anything until you see/trade-in your car, at that point you'll be able to articulate a accurate estimate to take to your insurance company. I had Progressive at the time and they had a team that dealt specifically with diminished value claims like mine. It was a hassle, but I felt it was fair in the end.
