My wife absolutely loves the SC and is actually the first car she gets excited about possibly owning. For now, she leans on buying the GX, but if she changes her mind again we may end up buying one-way tickets out to CA, pick up the car from one of the dealers out there and driving it back to Austin, TX. We have family in Carlsbad, CA so it would make a nice road trip!

Angry Got It Today !!!

So, Ive made a decision. I chose to buy the one from the dealership. The car the private individual was selling, although with low miles, has had 3 owners and the current owner cannot explain to my satisfaction why the glass was replaced and the door/body touched up!

The dealership's car was pristine even with double the miles of the private seller. It had one owner, and all-Lexus maintained. Very clean, drives very smooth, no dings.

The bad: in the lot, I discovered that the DVD navigation media was not there. Salesman promised that he will get me a replacement. Great! Then, salesman came back and said that parts dept. had advised that a new DVD map software was actually ordered and installed in the car a few days ago since the car was originally traded-in without one. Obviously, it is now treated as officially stolen from the lot. In short, the salesman looked around and stole one for me. I got home and looked at the version and this is what I have: map 2000 version 1

Isn't that map version too old for a 2002 SC430?

I think you should go back and ask for a newer version from your salesman. Explain to him that the version you got is old for your car year. Maybe he will do a trade with you.

That seems like a decent price. Here in NYC they want at least $35K. Where did you purchase your vehicle?

Thumbs up

I got my Absolutely Red 2002 Sc430 a couple of weeks back from a Cadillac/Hummer dealership. It had been traded in and was displayed in front of the show window, stealing the thunder from the competition. Black leather, fully loaded. I was able to run the vin # through the local Lexus service dept. and they gave it a double thumbs up. The owner had meticulously maintained. They had it originally listed at 41k but I ended up getting it for 35,200 because my son just started working at the Hummer dealership as a salesman. I truly got a "family discount." What a ride.
It has 34,500 miles and has been garaged for its short life. Swapped out run flats for Michelin Pilot Sports (thanks to the sound advice of veteran forum members).

I've been browsing pre-owned SC430's in the Chicago area and although there is a fair supply, there appear to be very few CPO's at local dealers. Is this a regional or nationwide trend? Any ideas as to why?

My local Lexus dealer, Pohanka Lexus, has 7 certified pre-owned Sc430's. Their website is www.pohankalexus.com
The other dealer in my area, Lindsay Lexus, has two pre-owned Sc430's listed but neither appears to be CPO.
The prices for these CPO's from the dealer are sky high.
I'm in the DC Metro area.
