umm i think you guys are drawing conclusions too quick. my questions still remain. how about the headrest on the back? could the inside of that be structurally strong enough as the roll bar?
today i was driving and saw a z4. right behind the two seats were the two roll bar. imagine wrapping thsoe two with leather that looks like the rear headrest on the sc430
to be honest, knowing how lexus/toyota design cars, they should have thought about this

Nice photo. That's just the one I got.
I found it on eBay, it gets through the snow very well, and at the mall when the parking lot is crowded with Christmas shoppers, I just push a few cars over and make my own spot.
Nobody has complained yet.
Merry Christmas.

How in the world are you going to roll over this car?
If you are hit so hard in a side impact with a wheel-trip factor of such a configuration that the center of gravity actually shifts into into a plane above the center line, you're screwed anyway. I think you are catastrophising. Buy the car you like more and forget about going upside down.
The major reason the MB is safer is because it's in the shop so much you don't get to put as many miles on it as you would a Lexus.

Never thought about how much safer it is because of significant shop time; good point.

They do look similar but the Solara came second.

As for safety, of course LExus tested the SC extensively for roll over protection. Lexus vehicles are some of the safest made.
This thread is a common example of why people think they are safe in 6000lbs SUVs and Hummers. Misconceptions on safety

Well I finally got around to calling up the "Lexus customer assistance center" to ask about this issue. After waiting on hold for quite awhile I was finally connected through to a representative. I asked her if the SC430 was equipped with any sort of roll over protection system or any engineering feature that would protect occupants in a roll over. Basically I got a canned response that went something along the lines of "Lexus engineers its entire line of vehicles to offer a high level of occupant safety. Safety features of the SC430 include dual front airbags, 3-point seatbelts, side airbags...."
Basically, the representative was side stepping the question because she couldn't give me the answer I wanted to hear and couldn't just say "no." Either that or she simply didn't know what she was talking about.
Just thought I would let you know what I found out. Does anyone else have information?
Looks like the mystery continues...

from the pics, they clearly show that there is a thick roll protection bar
