Default Sulphur Smel

My wife's GX470 is finally getting the service bulletin fix for the sulphur emission smell problem. Parts should be arriving in the next few weeks. They have been "on order" for over a month. My question is if any of you are experiencing a similar problem in the SC. My 02 Black SC430 appears to have a similar issue. I had read all the posts over the years that said it was the gas. Now that Lexus has issued the GX470 bulletin with fix for that model, I am wondering if anyone has had the fix done on their SC430. Thanks for any info.

I had the same problem with my '03 SC430, which I kept for 1 year and 15,000 miles. This was only experienced during aggressive acceleration. It seemed to be the general concensus on this forum that this was a result of the catalytic converter. Never had the problem fixed.

A sulfur rotten-egg smell from the exhaust is usually a rich fuel condition, which is why you are most likely to notice it on hard acceleration or during engine warm-up....this is the time the computer and the oxygen sensor richens things up for proper combustion. The catalyic converter converts the exhaust coming out of the cylinders to water vapor and a small amount of vaporized sulfuric acid. If you smell it ALL the time, you're running too rich....this could be anything from a plugged-up air filter to a bad engine computer.
