Default Convertible top issues how do I begin to diagnose.

The top will open no problem when it’s time to close the trunk opens the top lands but the final 2 steps of the trunk closing back down and the quarter panel windows going back up doesn’t always work.

how do I begin to diagnose this? The last two times I’ve used the top I’ve run into this issue, luckily it did finally close. I am good diagnosing and remedying mechanic issues, but I need some guidance here. I also searched and didn’t find anyone else posting the same issue.

When it comes to the top, you need something that can read the convertible top codes. Convertible top codes aren't stored in the system. You have to read them as the top is going up or down.

Many people on this board use Techstream, other people find that OBDII readers that can read Toyota factory codes will work.

Once you have that, things get MUCH MUCH MUCH easier.

If you want, you can just watch what happens as someone pushes the close button. You need to watch both sides. Things should happen exactly at the same time. If one side is missing something or it is slower, that is where your problem is.

Based on your description, I would guess there is an issue with your package tray

You can watch this video and see if yours looks like this one

thank you! So my package tray seems to be behaving correctly. I’m going to have techstream plugged in tomorrow while I operate the top!
