Question for those who had to replace the ML amp
Got myself an ’06 SC430 with ~61,500 miles about a month ago. Overall, for its age, the car is in good condition.
However, after a few days I had the "no sound" issue. All the symptoms match: fuses are fine, I still have access to bass, fader, etc., but can’t change anything. I can switch between FM, tape, and CD, but I can’t adjust the volume and I have no access to the navigation. From what I found, the common cause of this issue is a blown ML amp that needs to be replaced.
The weird thing is that I get no sound when starting the car, but after driving for a while (30+ minutes), the sound comes back and everything works normally. Even if I make a quick stop (turn off the engine) or ~15 minutes and start it again, the sound still works most of the time (~90%) and everything runs normally.
My question to those who had to replace the ML amp because of the "no sound" issue: did you also experience this behavior, or was it no sound at all (never came back)?
Another thing I noticed is that the bottom part of my head unit gets hot, especially on the right side.

When we replaced the amp in my sons 2005 SC he did not experience any of those system failures. The Amp just started crackling and full of static. He bought one off e-bay and I walked him through via the phone on how to replace it. He was successful and only ended up with 2 extra screws. He was in VA and I was in AR. It has worked great ever since and he has 215,xxx miles on his SC now. He bought it with the low 70's on the clock.
