I don't like taking my car to the only dealer for that kind of problem: they're not very good at that; they'd only drive the crap out of my car (with a guy with greasy shoes on the back seat) trying to guess where's coming from. On my '98 GS4, I had to wait year and a half for the stupid steering wheel shimmy to be (partially) fixed, and that was until Lexus came out with the TSB; all other attempts to fix it were futile. Since that time, I don't take the car in until I know what's the problem (thank goodness for the net). Sometimes the problem is not fixed, even with a TSB on hand (look at the door rattle problem).
I like your approach much better Rx: use prior experience, which makes it likely to be present in other cars; that's how TSBs come to life!
I'd like to make a suggestion that might help you guys. Not trying to be presumptuous...
I know you are relatively new owners of SC430's. I am a previous owner (9/02-9/03), so I've lived through many of the things you are now experiencing (door rattle, passenger seat rattle, roof rattle). During that time I was active in Club Lexus and participated in all of these discussions, so I know there are many lengthy conversations on these topics. Re: this particular problem, many owners have experienced the same. Lexus' willingness to fix it has ranged from replacing the whole door panel to denying a problem exists.
With that said, you may find quicker solutions to some of these problems by doing a search in the forum and reading some of the older threads. There is lots of great information there.
Technical Service Bulletin lady. That means dealer has detailed instructions how to solve the problem. Hopefully they've done it before so they don't experiment with your car.
I just talked to the Lexus tech again and they still have my car (for 4 dyas now). They have determined that my door rattles when the panel hits the metal part of the door. They said everything has been tightened, examined, looked at, etc. They said the only option left is to put Dynomat in the door panel.
