2004 SC430 Anrenna Mast
Hi all. I had a broken antenna mast that I changed out for an after-market (Amazon) antenna. I removed the old one and installed the new one by turning the radio on, then off. The problem is when the antenna goes down the motor continues to run for about 10 secs. When raised the antenna looks about halfway up. I have a “not original radio” installed and can’t accomplish the factory radio steps. I do have the old radio, but the amp is blown and the speakers sound bad in the back. I changed the speakers in the door. So what do you all suggest I accomplish now to fix the antenna problem. Amp issue and rear speaker mess. This might be long. Thanks ahead of time.

This may be an option for you to address the antenna issue.
I had a similar issue. The car I bought had a stubby rubber antenna installed, but they did not unhook the antenna motor so it noisily cycled with each on and off of the radio. I bought a replacement mast on amazon. I removed the antenna motor assembly and took it apart to remove the remnants of the old mast. There were none. I re-installed the assembly and then installed the new mast. The new mast would go up and then retract to about 1/2 it's full length. That was fine. (I also have an aftermarket radio.) The OEM radio would extend the mast height depending on the frequency of the station it was tuned to. The higher up the frequency band, the higher the mast would extend. The annoying part was that the antenna motor would run on after the antenna was retracted creating a very loud clicking noise as the drive gear was jumping the teeth on the antenna stem. I found a few threads and posts that said you need to get an OEM mast because the aftermarket ones have a thinner plastic stem that easily jumps the gear. So, I put the stubby rubber antenna back on and disconnected the power to the motor. No more noise.
The OEM radio has 2 antenna inputs. One for the mast antenna (regular size) and one for the imbedded antenna in the windshield (smaller size). My aftermarket radio does not have a second input. With just the stubby antenna, I could tune in about 6 stations. I am 100 miles from any major cities that would have stations. I bought a splitter and an adapter to plug in both antennas. After that, I could tune in about 20 stations.
