Default Self Leveling Headlights

The car I bought a month ago has self leveling headlights. The error light on the dash was on for this feature. When I investigated the problem I found that the arm on the front sensor was not installed correctly so the sensor had no idea where it was. There is a hole in the arm that has a square profile that is supposed to fit on the sensor shaft aligning with the square profile on the end of it. It was not. After I installed the arm on the shaft correctly, the headlights would do their up, down, level search when they first came on. But they only seemed to do it the first time after the repair. I didn't catch them doing it again after that. So, I removed both the front and rear sensors. Took them apart, cleaned them, and reassembled and installed them. They seemed perfectly clean inside. Now, it seems that the headlights do their up, down, level search every time they come on. But, within about 10 seconds of them completing their leveling search, the error light still comes on in the dash. The system seems to be working, but it still throws the error light. Any ideas ?

Try to disconnect the battery, it may help. It seems like your headlights couldn't complete the calibration.

Disconnected for 30 seconds. No joy.

Watching this with some interest as mine does the same thing, they do that up/down thing when I start it but then "sometimes" the dash light goes on. I may try the disconnect the battery thing, normally you have to leave it disconnected for about 10 minutes or so not just 30 seconds... and then you will have to recalibrate the seat memory thing as well.

I have recently experienced the same issue which in my case seems to be due to lack of use. I have found if I take the car on a drive after a while it cures itself and the light goes out. If I don’t drive the car for a week or so it comes back on initially and after say 10 miles of driving it goes off. I think driving frequently is required to keep everything running correctly.
