Hey Nigel,
Apparently, there are two levels to Vine -- silver and gold. My daughter is at the silver level and did not find any options. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Mounting to the nav door sounds risky unless you pull the power to the door-opening motor.
I like this CarPlay solution because you can get one with a front and rear cameras. Dash cams are a must these days with all the reckless driving going on!
I have a $15 bluetooth adapter that transmits through the FM radio and it sounds great, and I'm a (aged) audiophile. So, while going through the AUX may be better, it isn't absolutely necessary. If the unit had proper jacks/wires/connections, I would likely jump through the hoops to connect it that way.
My question is whether or not going with one of these is a major advantage over the Grom unit? I'm past-ready for upgrading via one of these routes. The disadvantage of the Grom is you have to use your phone as your screen, right? Or, does it use the nav screen as an interface?
Gene... First of all I'm not sure about calling Daryl, Darly, he might not like that!
I don't know about velcroing anything to that nav door, the adhesive might ruin that door, to me anyway that's a no no. But it is after all your car, so do what you want.
Hey Wilson,
Not sure I understand the danger with the NAV door. I've never had it happen, nor heard of anyone having the NAV door open on it's on. In fact, mine will only open if I force it open. It no longer works with the buttons. When I unplugged the TPMS it also disengaged the NAV door. No loss since the installer of the aftermarket Pioneer unit apparently disengaged the entire NAV system (done by previous owner.)
I'm not familiar with Grom so can't comment on using it in place of CarPlay.
The idea of Velcro came from a YouTube video I watched where the user tried it and found that when removing it with a heat gun there was no damage. Like you, I'm inclined to be cautious with my "baby" car.
For those of us with an operational NAV door, it would be risky to mount to it. I inadvertently open mine sometimes. If something was attached, it might bind and wreck the mechanism.
I like the idea of mounting to the glass, and the OP's picture of it looked fine.

I haven't tried Carplay on my Grom, but I have used it to play from my phone. (works great) Since the Grom doesn't have any display, you will have to use your phones screen.
Yes indeed I was ribbing him! I never thought he was calling you Darly..😇
You can call him Dashing, you can call him Daryl, you can call him DeeDee, or, you can call him Double-D, but you doesn't have to call him Darly! (You might have to be 60 or older to get this reference)

Yes I am over 60.. I vaguely remember what you are saying. And "I" did not call him Darly, someone else did.
Wow, this name stuff is going way beyond my comprehension
I guess my efforts to be a tad personal got out of hand and I have learned my lesson.
I'm am indeed over 60 and I loved the string of "you can call me....."
Now for a brief update on my new NAV toy. So far, I'm really liking it. I have not used the AUX cable since I plan to continue using my Pioneer head unit.
One thing I desperately need help with (and I will start a new post on it), is how to connect a backup camera. This unit came with one but I have no idea how to connect it to the backup lights. I've seen a few videos on the topic and have a vague idea of what to do -- I just don't know where to start on the SC430.

Thanks to all who show patience with me.

We are just having a little fun with your mis-spelling of Daryl's name, I would not give it another thought.
Now I'm guessing as I don't have your instructions in front of me but I'm guessing you have to tap into the power on your back-up lights to turn the camera on when you put the car in reverse. Have someone put it into reverse and pick the lighted bulb (usually behind the clear lens, but I'm not near my car right now) and it should have 2 wires going to it, red and black but again I'm not sure without looking at it. You can use a T tap to tie into the correct wire to power it. Below is a link to the T tap I'm talking about, you sure don't need 150 of them but you can get them at any Autoparts store , the link is to just show you what I'm talking about. Its a simple procedure.
Thank you, SGB4570! I appreciate your clarification on the name game as well as your help with the backup camera. I'm such a visual learner that a video would be most helpful.
Below are the pics of the Velcro placement of the CarPlay unit. Again, please remember...my NAV door does not open. I used 4 small, thin strips so I would not block the two speakers on the back of the unit. In fact, I had to turn down the volume since the speakers are so close to the NAV door as compared to the windshield mount.
I ensured that the vents are still easily accessible and are not obstructed in any way. It's also, very stable and at a better sight level than on the dashboard.
So far, I'm very pleased.
