Issue with dash after bagging 93 Soarer
Hi all,
First post, not sure if this will get any traction....
So I just finished up bagging my 93 JZZ30 Soarer. Made some adjustments and everything was working wonderfully. I stopped for gas, the car aired out. Upon restart, some weird electrical stuff happened.
The digital dash no longer reads speed or rpm, the turn signal arrows are on constant (like fully lit not flashing). No fuel level or engine temp and no gear is showing in the selection box.
The reverse lights are staying lit.
The reverse chime in the cabin is beeping no matter what gear the car is in. Not sure if USDM SC’s have this feature, maybe it’s just a jdm thing. The gear selector light on the shifter stays lit on reverse but is also lit on whatever gear the car is in (auto shifter).
I was just down in the garage and noticed that when the reverse chime is going, the reverse lights dim ever so slightly to the cadence of the chime.
So far I’ve done the following:
checked all fuses, nothing blown
checked for pinched or broken wires, nothing
I have the wheel well harness exposed and I’m about to relocate it but there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the wiring. I’m still going to do it, was just hoping there would be something obvious that would indicate that’s where the issue is.
Since bagging the car I’ve driven it maybe 60 miles. Noticed some very minor rubbing but the liners aren’t all torn up and no wires have been chewed through.
I’m about to pull the ecu before doing the harness relocation just to see if there are any leaking capacitors or anything that might be causing this problem.
Anyone have any thoughts? Could airing the car out have done something internally to the harness in the wheel well that isn’t visible to the naked eye? Maybe a transmission sensor? Something in the shifter? I’m really stumped and would appreciate any advice or help.
Thanks!

I did. Checked both sides, on JDM it’s on the right side which makes sense I guess. Got the harness out from the cover, nothing visually wrong with it. Planning on getting it really loose and checking every single wire. Going to relocate it anyway just as a precaution. No wiring in the fender well on the left side so it’s not that.
Was talking to a guy in NZ this morning, he suggested pulling the digital cluster and checking the board in that since the 12v signal wire from the shifter runs to the cluster. Just such a weird issue that I’ve never experienced in any car before especially since it appears to involve two separate systems simultaneously.
