Default SC430 alternator upgrade issue

Posted on the BIG 3 thread but I haven’t got a response.

Installed an brand new SC430 alternator from Autozone on my 92 SC300. Switched out to an oval plug and trimmed the bracket to make it bolt up.

Now when i go WOT the batterie light comes on/flickers.

I have a 1/0 gauge wire from the batterie in the trunk going straight to the alternator and added a 1/0 gauge ground wire from the alternator case to chassis. I also installed a new serpentine belt.

Is it possible I didn’t wire “L, IG, S” correctly?

Joe, I'm sorry I didn't get a shot of the connector in the reference picture I posted for you in the Big 3 upgrade thread.

Take a look at this screenshot from the 1997 Supra Turbo electrical TSRM and check it against your wiring. The alternator pin assignments should be the same between the Supra MKIV and SC430. It's a long shot but perhaps you put wires 1 and 3 in the wrong places?

Thanks for this. Gonna swap pins 1 and 3 and see what happens. Hope I don’t blow anything.

Fail
i swapped the two pins and still got the flickering batterie light. I went and bought a reman sc300 Denso alternator and everything is back to normal. Such a waste of time and money. POS autozone probably sold me a faulty alternator. Can’t take it back because I altered the bracket. Oh well.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

That sucks! I’m sorry Joe : (

A good Denso reman from Densoproducts, Rockauto or Toyota is a sure bet.

I think you should pick up an SC430 2003-2010 alternator from either of those sources in the future. I’m not fond of Autozone reman products personally.

Yup... I’m totally done with VatoZone. Screwed me over to many times. I got the Denso reman alternator from rock auto and the shipping was cheap and fast.
Again, thanks for help.
