Default What throwout bearing do i use?

Ok guys i have been looking everywhere for this answer but i can't find it i might be stupid but stick with me. I have a 97 sc300 that has been swapped with a w58 from a mk3 supra so would i buy the 7m throwout bearing because of its the trans from the 7m or would i buy the newer one because the bell housings have been swapped new to cars and I'm having a lot of fun learning thanks, guys!!

R154 and W58 both come with the 7m motor (turbo vs NA); and the clutch setups are different (push vs pull).

You would buy a W58 clutch disk, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Even the flywheel is different, which means he must've bought an aftermarket W58 JZ flywheel or one out of a NA MK4 supra/5speed SC300.

And yes the bellhousing would be the same situation as the flywheel (7M bellhousing is different than JZ)

Pretty certain the pilot bearing is identical, driftmotion lists the same one for 5m, 7m, 1jz, 2jz, 22 and 1uz.

On drif motion they have one that says 7m and one that says all the other models because they are slightly different and I just need to know would I still use the one out of the mk 3 supra because my trans is from that car or would I use the one for the sc300/MK4?

Oh it does look like the part numbers on the throw-out bearing is different. I'm not quite sure why that is..

7m motor Mk3 supra W58 throw-out bearing:90363-40022-7
2jz motor NA Mk4 supra/SC300/IS300:31230-22101

So if you have an SC300 with a W58 i *believe* you would use the 2jz one, but I've never ran a W58 so its confusing a little to see the same trans in two different motors get a different throw out bearing. Using a mk3 R154 with a 2jz you use the 7m/R154 throw-out bearing so this is a little backwards. Hopefully someone chimes in and knows if theres any difference to the W58 from both cars.

Joe, it is confusing for sure. I’ve never used an MKIII Supra W58, only an SC W58. But I now run an MKIII Supra R154 (with several parts updates to adapt it to my SC).

The R154’s clutch system pretty much didn’t change from MKIII Supra to Soarer and the JZX and other Toyotas that came with it. The 1JZ-R154 flywheel (OEM or aftermarket) and 1JZ-R154 bellhousing are the main things needed for bolting it to a JZ. Then there are the other things needed to adapt it but that’s another subject.

The MK3 Supra W58 should use the same pusher-style clutch as the later W58’s so it is weird that it has its own throwout bearing part number not shared with the SC and MKIV W58’s. I just assume it’s best to use the throwout bearing for the SC and MKIV W58.

I’ll bet that if you had an IS300’s W55 with its dual-mass LUK flywheel it might have its own unique throwout bearing that is different from the other two W58’s.

Honestly the best person to ask is someone who has run an MKIII W58 in their SC. It definitely is a configuration that works but it’s just not done much because it’s nearly as complicated to adapt as an MKIII R154 while being weaker than an SC/MKIV W58 so there is less documentation on it.

I don’t see any reason why the SC/MKIV W58 throwout bearing shouldn’t work though.

Use the W58/JZ model throw-out bearing to match the bell housing and clutch fork as I have in the past for a build using a MKIII W58 mated to 2JZ. Setup was as follows: MKIII W58 gear box, W58/JZ Bell-housing, W58/JZ clutch fork, W58/JZ TO bearing, W58/JZ slave cylinder, etc.). If I recall correctly, the clutch forks are different between the 7M/W58 and JZ/W58 bell housings. Its been a while since I've had both in front of me.
