Default Need Help Troubleshooting

So finally got the car to start after my starter install by replacing the fuel pump. The car is running rough/rich and is misfiring bad. It will only stay on with the maf unplugged also. If I let it stay running it'll start smoking behind the engine I'm guessing it's coming from the cats? Any ideas

I've replaced caps, rotors, plugs, and wires. Also did the screwdriver test on the injector and they seem to be ok. Thanks.

I would plug in the maf and see if you can sort the problem out. sounds like it is dumping fuel, could likely be the ecu is going/gone bad. dont run it like that for long or you will mess up the cats and dump fuel in the oil.
maybe worth a check inside the ecu to see if anything obvious it going on (leaky busted caps which cause issues on the board) as it is known to dump fuel when they go.

Car wont stay running with the maf so cant really check it plugged for now. Ecu was rebuilt about 5 years ago so didn't really think about it. Can it go bad like that just after a starter replacement will have to take a look.

An ECU going bad after that service is *possible* but not likely unless it were to be damaged by something outside of it like an overcharging alternator with a failing voltage regulator.

I would first look at getting an OEM new, used OEM working or aftermarket MAF sensor and I would also rule out a failing igniter unit (not ignition coil... two separate things) as a possible suspect.

Ali is right: if you continue to run the car with no MAF plugged in the ECU will dump way more fuel than needed into each injector pulse and thus foul up your spark plugs, O2 sensors and catalytic convertors.

Thanks for the input especially from you Ogs. I've tried multiple used maf but still no change. May have to buy a new one later. Ecu looks good dont see anything bad. Still need to check the igniter. Could it be the fuel dampener. I kinda messed with the screw on top. The car also does a high pitch blow off noise if you rev it sometimes. Also just notice this picture below. I've used starting fluid a while back could that be it. I pretty sure it's gasoline though.

*EDIT* I wrote this long explanation but I think I was remembering the ports wrong.
It looks like you might be pulling fuel through the charcoal canister which runs through that vacuum line.

This can happen if it gets saturated with fuel, usually from topping off the gas tank or just happens over time sometimes.
the fix is to replace the charcoal canister and check those vac lines for cuts/leaks etc.. (if you were topping off after filling now is the time to stop).

pulling fuel through there causes all your symptoms, hard starts and messing up the starter when enough fuel gets in the cylinders.
it will run very rich and overall badly, go through plugs etc... maybe clean the plugs even if they are new.
as a test you can pull that line and cap both ends, give the car a few minutes to run and get out all the gas (unplug maf temp to do this if you have to).
after that plug the maf back in and it should run normally. if that is the case replace the canister with a better one not full of fuel and you should be good.

another helpful picture, verify the vacuum lines are in good condition.

I agree with AliSC3. If you think that's gas, then it's probably getting sucked thru the canister out that hose, leaking past it onto the TB. And THAT much extra gas would cause a lot of the issues you're having.
Disconnect that hose, tuck it over by the canister, put a plug on the TB, plug back in your MAF then start the car and let it burn off any residual gas.
Report back what happens

The line where it seems to be leaking from connects to the fuel regulator though? Once I get some caps I'll try what Ali said though with the canister and see if it help definitely need to replace some lines though.
This is my second canister too. I replaced the first one after it kept on leaking fuel vapor .
