I bought a set of needles for my burnt out ones on my 93 Lexus SC400. They light up red, but when they are off the plastic in the LED slot is white. These replacements came off a 95 SC400 and the plastic in their LED slot is red when off.
My problem is they dont light up at all. I dont know if this guy sold me junk but, he said they work and its because the years are different. I did some research on the cluster odometer and the different cluster in later years has the outside temp display on top of the time but thats it.
Is it possible that the 93-95 difference could be why its not lighting up?
Attached is the picture from the ebay ad.
Help me out, because if this guy sold me bad stuff I want to try to get refunded quickly.
I swapped a whole cluster from a 93 into my 95. Aside from a few minor problems it does everything it's supposed to. Try PMing ONELASTTRY. He's got the most experience with gauge clusters and needles. Worse comes to worse, he can fix your old needles. He's da man.
I do not think you can just pull the needles out and replace them...there are other facets involved in the whole circuit...he can expound on that for you.
Number one issue. the needle's will not balance from cluster to cluster so they WILL READ INCORRECTLY just changing them out.
Number two issue, the needle's WILL NOT interchange between a 92-93 and a 95. they are wired backwards and you cannot make them work, by trying to use them in reverse voltage you are only killing the needle's and possibly the OPAMP in your cluster. Whoever sold you these probably sold you a good set, but not for your car.
