jiffy lube fuel injection cleaning
I was driving home yesterday and punched the gas hard. My friend driving behind me told me that when he saw me do this, he saw some dark hazy smoke coming out of my exhaust. I also feel that my car isn't that fast. I have a 93 sc400 that has 87k mi with no mods, the only thing i have done is taken the snorkel out(gonna do a BFI).
I have considered doing the fuel injection cleaning with jiffy lube. I have read another thread with this topic where the poster says it works while others including an article say that it doesn't do anything for a japanese car. Any opinions?

Black smoke is oil burning in your cylinders. Bad rings or valve seals. Have a compression check done. If the compression is good then your rings should be OK. I have no idea what to do about the valve seals. Anyone else chime in here?

Black = running rich
Whiteish/blue = burning oil
White = burning coolant
Our cars are running rich to begin with. A tuneup will help burn the mixture. Adding the cleaner doesn't really do much, so I'd bring it by and have the fuel system cleaned and flushed......by a competent mechanic (use your judgement there). With our cars having high miles, it certainly wont hurt, and it might improve your gas meilage anyway. If the problem persists- take it to have the compression checked.

depending on where you live.....$69-$89
They hook up a high pressure line and force cleaner through the fuel rail and injectors. Then they test the injectors for flow rates. Some shops will charge extra for that. I've seen a full service fuel system cleanout as high as 129$ with all the bells and whistles.
Adding the in tank additives is good to maintain a clean fuel system, but if its gummed up to begin with, it really doesn't do much. But having it flushed will clean everything out. Just remember to add a quality cleaner (not the cheap-o stuff) to your tank everytime you change your oil, and you should never have a problem again.
Good luck.
