My driver is a 92 SC400, I have a 93 parts car. I have the 93 ECU out and have been considering replacing the caps and swapping it into my 92.

The parts car ran fine, and my driver doesn't appear to have any problems but since I have everything apart right now I thought I'd address this "known problem".

Is the 93 ECU directly compatible with the 92?

I cracked open the 93 ECU case and see the cap's are "nichecom". Are these the original troublesome caps? They currently look fine but I have the caps and the ability to change..

 

As far as I have read, 92 to 99 had bad caps, replace all caps weather they look bad or not. I have swaped into my 92 and 95 ecm, only issue is egr..92 vacum control with relay, 95 is electronic. make sure both cars have same options like trac control..just my two cents worth.
