Brake Grind
i just installed new rear rotors into the SC (95). everything went fine except for a few problems with getting the original rotor out but i got it done.
its been 2 days and ive started to hear grinding noises in the rear now. it comes when the brake is half-way or more. i checked it out and everything "seems" to check out. im goin to pepboys since brake inspection is free. i just need them to tell me whats up and ill go from there.
you guys have any idea what it could be? any help is appreciated.

That's peculiar. I assume you changed the pads at the same time?
On my 96, I sometimes get a soft grinding noise for just a little while after I haven't driven it for a couple of days. I think that's just a light rust coating on the face of the rotors.
Does you noise go away after you've used the brakes a few times?

i replaced all the pads in the rear as well. the grinding quiets down a bit when the brakes warm up but its still loud enough to concern me. i also noticed a lot more brake dust in the driver rear.
heres a few pics of before and after.

I'd open the drivers rear again and have a look at the caliper. It may be that the pistons aren't retracting and are causing the pads to bind. If this isn't corrected, it may warp that nice new drilled rotor.
I recently had a similar problem in the front of my Toyota 4x4 pickup. I replaced both calipers with rebuilts from CarQuest for $75 each. The Toyota new price was $350 each. I don't even want to know what new Lexus rear calipers cost. Far more than that I bet.
If you want to stay with OEM parts you might consider a rebuilding them yourself. A kit is probably available and, if the pistons are corroded, they can be purchased individually. Check with Gordon at Carson Toyota/Lexus Parts. Also there are lots of advanced aftermarket choices.

ok. went to pepboys and got the rears checked out. perfectly fine as far as they knew. and now the grinding miraculously disapeared. odd
thanx for the help though. if i hear any more noise ill have a better idea of what to look at.
