Default 5sp sc400....

.......tried searching but did not come up w/ anything.

is there some way to adapt a manual tranny to a 400? i've called around and no one seems to know. since our cars are similar to the 300, should'nt a sc300 tranny bolt up w/ some mods(like custom flywheel?). seems like more people would be interested in a conversion like this.

I've been very interested for awhile now, just don't have the time to do the projects anymore.
My research has led me to the Borg warner unit from a Mustang Cobra,a modified driveshaft, and a custom made flywheel that I would make myself. The rest of the parts(console, pedals, slave cylinder)would come from an SC300 5spd.
Doing this would free up some 40 hp that the auto tranny otherwise consumes in it's pumping duties.

just out of curiosity, why would'nt you use the sc300 tranny instead of the mustang one? would'nt the sc300 one be the closest match w/ the least amount of work. as far as horesepower issues it is capable of handling an extra 40+ horsepower with ease. supras seem not to have any problems. how involved is it to get the mustang bell housing to fit?

There is a company (in Australia of course) that can and, I believe, has done the 5 sp trany in the SC400. There are more problems than just getting the tranny to mount on the engine. There are also ECU issues and things along those lines.

My thinking was that the Mustang unit had already a clutch fork built in,and that by adapting with a plate on the engine block, you'd be there.Except for the flywheel.
But,I recently learned that there has been a successful install of a early Supra gearbox by modifiying the automatic bellhousing, and adapting the tranny after that, with a plate.
I also learned that the flywheel used in that swap was from a Celica,4 wheel drive model, from the late eighties/early nineties, modified a bit.
