Default Tinting or clear bra Specialists?

Hi there,

question for people with extensive experience with tinting and clear bra films...

i've been looking into doing UV reduction on my vehicle. i got it with some old, ugly tint on the rear, and want to replace it. however, since my car is midnight indigo blue, i'm not a huge fan of tint on dark blue cars, so i was thinking of doing clear film all around to block heat and UV rays and whatnot. now i've been looking at llumar air 80 and 3m, but haven't made a decision yet. the sides and rear seem to be easy enough to figure out. however, i want to put something on the exterior of my front windshield. my state requires front interior safety sticker on my front windshield, so i figured the easiest path for me would be to find an exterior film. i am willing to leave the bottom 1/4 of the windshield unprotected if my only realistic option is to do an interior film. now then. with the angle of the windshield taken into consideration, has anyone had any success with "tinting" their front windshield? i'm interested in clarity. the angle may make it harder for the driver to "see" through the clear films because we aren't looking through the film dead on.
thank you!

I've driven a few cars with front windows tinted, but I don't have it done to my car. The tint distorts light, so it takes some getting used to when driving at night. Once your eyes adjust to it, then it won't be noticeable anymore.

I don't know of any exterior films, but an easy solution to your sticker problem would be to apply the inspection sticker to a clear rigid plastic and wedge it in between your dashboard and glass. I used to do that all the time with parking permits, so I could remove them from my car when I was away from home.

I've AIR80'd the front of two of my cars. It's virtually unnoticeable from the inside. You do get a little bit of waviness for a short time, but it should clear up. It's a significant help in keeping the temps down while driving (I use a sunshade while parked so it doesn't really do much for me at those times).

I would not suggest putting anything on the outside of the windshield, as it is exposed to the elements and probably would get damaged quite quickly resulting in reduced vision over a quick period of time.

I have 35% tint on my windshield its not too bad at night, just make sure both of your headlights work. I cut around the inspection sticker and I have the DMV employees replace it carefully when needed.

i was thinking about using this because i really would prefer an exterior film, but the local shop that is an authorized dealer charges $500+ for this and it's like, wtf, it looks like it takes 20 minutes of work to install. jeez.

the inspector applies it directly to the windshield so it can't be like moved from car to car lol

thanks, i'm going to check out prices for the air80 locally. maybe i'll just do half or 3/4 of the front windshield.

OP, for tint and especially for heat and UV reduction I recommend using Llumar CTX film on your window surfaces not including the windshield and Llumar Air Blue film on the windshield. I used a mild (and Cali legal) 35% CTX tint on on my SC and there is a notable reduction in interior temperature. Same with the Air Blue film on the windshield. Also, both of these Llumar films are ceramic matrix and will not affect the signal strength of your cellular phones and other wireless devices.

Front window tint is usually $250-$350 from my past inquiries for ceramic tint. Lower end is usually when getting the rest of the windows tinted, and higher end is only doing the windshield. 500+ for a ppf on the window isn't too surprising.

Interesting. We don't have that here in California. I get a sticker in the mail and put it on the license plate. If you live in the ghetto, then you cut it up with a razor blade, so other people can't steal it. lol

so i went to a llumar dealer/installer yesterday to ask about their air80 clear tint, and apparently we just need a form from the dmv signed by our doctors to get tint on the front windshield! so if you have a legit reason to need tint in the front--eyesight or skin issues or whatever--then your doctor should allow you to get your front windshield tinted in Virginia. how cool. turns out they just leave a cutout for the safety sticker, so no problem.

another question: what do ppl do about the fading trim strip/dot matrix around the rear windows? mine has turned from black to this faded brownish color.
