If you have a "scissors" style jack like I do, it is jammed in there good by tightening the main screw to expand the jack so it does not rattle. To get it out, just loosen it a few turns so that it can easily slip out.
Reverse the process when reinstalling so it stays nice and quiet.

Yep, exactly what Perry posted. They come already "expanded" to a tight fit. All you have to do is turn it counter clockwise (left) and it will make the jack shrink a bit more. Then just slide her out.
