Today I sold my 92 SC400, the vehicle that sparked the never ending interest into Lexus as a brand. I had originally purchased it to flip, but I realized fairly quickly that I didn't want to flip this car. I wanted it. I also was throwing money at it, but I loved it. This car was the vehicle that converted me to Lexus over all else. People would walk by and compliment it. I'd say "thanks! It's 24 years old" They would respond with "&*^$@*#+! I thought it was an 02!" I was literally about to remove it off the market if this dude didn't buy it. Much to my chagrin, he bought it.
It's a bittersweet feeling for sure. Many DIY's and threads regarding this wonderful money-hogging memory, many hours of work and countless dollars in the thing, but they are all bonding memories. Memories that will be not too soon forgotten.
I am not SC-less, however. I still have a 93 w/ over 300k, but it does not have the sentimental value nor the memories that this 1992 did with me.
Fortunately, the fellow that bought it knows what he has, and has a buddy that owns 2 SC400's so it's in good hands.
Just sharing a milestone of mine and a familiar memory that I'm sure most of you guys have experienced as well.
Make yourself feel better by buying an SC300 to replace it . I know that feeling though; the sad reality of watching it drive away but the stack of money in your hand that lets you sleep that night.
I'm both sad and happy for you. Your photo reminds me of when I let go of a beloved, sentimental car, watching it get towed away on a flatbed trailer. That's what happens when you get into a vehicle that not only suits you but grows on you. You will always have the memories and in time it will mostly be the better ones you'll focus on. At the end of the day that is still a great outcome: the SC400 took you through a number of years and life experiences and it remained an interesting and passionate experience unto itself in that time.
No telling what the future holds but I hope you enjoy your SC300 also even if it's not the same as your 400. Give it time
