Hey, guys, need some help, my car has always leaked coolant, but I never knew if it was from the plastic water outlet or where, but I just replaced my thermostat seal, and resealed the water outlet and I noticed that when I have the heater on full blast and am trying to purge the system of air, there's a little right angled hose on the passenger side that is leaking coolant. I'm mainly trying to tackle this issue because ever since I got my car a little over a year ago it's always ran a little warm, and I'm tired of carrying around a jug of coolant

Any help on identifying that hose and a fix for the leak would be greatly appreciated!

So is that normal? My friend has a 97 Sc400 and his sits right on the half line, not above.

 

That's the normal spot for most SC temperature gauges, just a tick above the 40% mark (not half).

That looks like a lot of fluid in the video, but I can't tell if it's pouring out or just a puddle vibrating. It's in an area that could be coming from the Heater Control Valve (top of the firewall) or A/C expansion valve or whatever it's called.

 

You really need to do a bit of detective work to figure it out. Remove the plastic under liner, and search for the highest spot it's leaking from, drips can land on other hoses and end up in spots no where near the actual source. On a 95 400 that I had the black plastic thermostat housing itself had a hairline crack in it on the underside right above where the hose goes on. This part here... So fluid would flow off the backside of the hose, and end up all over the place. I found out it was cracked after replacing the pump and seals, only to have to remove the stuff around this housing and redo it.


Other then that it looks like the line for the excess fluid, typically if you have too much fluid some will naturally flow out onto the plastic under liner. If memory serves me correct its the left hose line on the upper part of the reservoir and it goes down and back in that direction I believe.

. Have you ever replaced the water pump on this car? Has the timing belt been done? What's the mileage and maintenance history? I wouldn't let a coolant leak go long. From personal experience, by the time you notice the temp gauge on max you've already done damage. Blown head gasket is not common on these cars, but it does happen. Also our cabins tend to be hotter then most cars, so don't let the warmth from the tranny fool you.
