For about $10,000, you can get this sweet manual SC300 in good condition with a solid background, and a reliable pedigree.

According to the Craigslist seller of this red rover...

Of course, this is an inappropriate thread for selling a car.... That is what the classified section is for and a moderator will eventually move in and take this out...

But, I have not seen anyone asking anywhere near $10K for a '92 factory 5-sp regardless of the miles or condition - the seller can ask but highly unlikely anyone will pay that much....

A heavily modified turbo/5 sp swap with suspension and wheel upgrades could fetch that or a bit higher but then you are hoping the person doing that work did a quality job.

Again, see my message immediately above yours. It seems pretty obvious that tmarko is Tony Markovich, a CL editor and author of the article, referencing someone else as the seller of the vehicle. I don't imagine moderators will have a problem with that.

it's bound to sell now lol I'd love to have another low mileage 5 speed

Ali SC3 06-07-16 10:17 AM

cl editors are allowed to post front page features in the main section...

That being said, I don't think the car is 10k special, not even if it had like 40k miles or something.

mikef 06-07-16 07:22 PM

for another 10k you can just buy mine lol

RXRodger 06-07-16 07:39 PM

I would sell my 93 manual in the exact same color for much less than that. This is not a for sale post, just saying I don't want to part with mine and would let it go for less.

The price is steep, especially since it has been monkeyed with and is not stock. Cheap aftermarket radio and incorrect wheels from a later model GS. Kind of makes you wonder if this car had the "stanced" suspension and $3,000 worth of 20" wheels/stretched tires and the guy put it back to stock suspension and slapped on those later model GS wheels.

KahnBB6 06-08-16 12:34 AM

The high price aside it looks pretty close to stock to me. I can forgive the GS wheels as they really look better on the car than all but the period-correct BBS SC400 rims and the 1996+ SC400 (and Soarer) "Blade" 7-spoke OEM rims. Or MKIV NA or TT rims. The car's original factory wheels might make it a better case for being unmodified but they are unbelievably dated and ugly. I can't blame anyone for having switched them out for a better looking semi-period correct Toyota/Lexus rim.

As for that stereo I kind of agree but I'll play devil's advocate: Especially if the original stereo went out many people tend not to retain it even with the aux-in jack modification. I hate gaudy stereos myself and there really is an argument for keeping the stock head unit unless you buy one of the five or so non-ugly HU's on the market or put in a double-in touchscreen unit. And most of those are ugly also just because of their loud graphical user interfaces. Someone can always change their SC's stereo to what they want.

The rest of the car looks far from perfect but I'm having a hard time finding much else that isn't basically stock.

Aron9000 06-08-16 01:42 PM

^ Oh I agree the stock 1992 SC300 wheels are ugly, I ditched mine when I first bought the car. Although I was thinking a similar style turbine wheel, bigger, more up to date like a BMW Alpina or Benz-McLaren SLR type of wheel would look good on an SC.
