Question Painting emblems? Anyone done it? Help...

I have gold emblems on my green SC and I'm thinking about painting them flat black. I just can't bring myself to shell out $300 for some chrome emblems.

What do you guys think? Once I got the emblems off how would I re-secure them? I know they use an adhesive backing... but could I get some adesive from an auto parts store that I could use to re-apply them?

Also how do you think black emblems would look on this car?

Thanks in advance...
Jim

Default emblems

I wouldn't paint them black i don't think that would look very good. There are golddipping kits i was looking at on EBAY, and there is a web site that deals with factory parts and they sell the whole set for the SC 400 and it's $149.99. Just my opinion though.

I think chrome would look better on your car ( very nice BTW )

I have painted emblems, but then again I have a lighter colored car.

I'm finished. I REALLY like the way it looks. Chrome looks great... but the flat black look like the black-chrome that I've seen.

2 hours and 1/2 can of paint... I'm happy.

Default New emblems

Greetings,
3 months ago when I bought my SC4 I bought a set of new chrome emblems at Lexus in seaside, California. The cost was just under $120.00. they were NOT $300.

That thinner will probably work on the emblems too. Get some 3m double sided if you need more sticky.

I'm pretty sure the Laquer Thinner would eat right through the plastic emblems.

I'll try to get some pics up soon. The silver exhaust tips are SOOOOO much better.

Those wheels and tires aren't on the SC anymore... I was just playing around.

They are 18x9.5 F and 18x11.0 R - I have 265/35-18s up front and 295/30's in the back.

Thanks guys!

Here's a photoshopped version that 2JZGTE did for me.

You get the idea. The emblems are very subtle... but still there.

IF you don't like them no prob... I'm diggin them. Oh... and $130 was still too much for me. All my $ goes to the Supra! hahaha The spray paint cost me $3!

So if the thinner won't work on the emblems what will? My pimp gold plating is already fading and I would like to turn them to normal chrome. And when i remove the emblems, 3m double stick tape will do fine for resecuring? I thought that tape would be too thick and "raise" the emblem too much.

I didn't try... but I'm about 99% sure the thinner will eat the plastic. I primed and painted mine. I used a clear silicone adhesive to reattach.

just get a clan of flat black and spray them, its very simple.
i dont like chrom, its too bling bling, i dont like gettin the attention from a stupid emblem..
i rather have them black on a black car.
just like the toyota supra twin turbo, its cleaner..
i saw some black/chrom emblems on a GS and IS, and damn that **** looks clean.
