I know some people were asking about carbon fibers reaction in a crash... I skimboard alot (not the kids skimming over the flats, but the kids skimming the waves the Wedge in Newport, 10th street, Aliso... man I wish I could make it back to socal soon...) anyways, our boards are either S-Glass or Carbon fiber. The only major differnces between the two from what I have seen are, Carbon Fiber does not flex as much as regular glass, carbon fiber does not scratch as easy (if you run over a rock on your board- a fiberglass board will get what looks like a rip that goes all the way to the foam core), however carbon can take a beating since it does not tear as easy as fiberglass boards... And lastly, carbon fiber doesn't seem to get stress cracks and slowly break like fiberglass boards do, when a carbon fiber board breaks, it just snaps... no folding, no warning, just breaks (due to the stiffness and lack of flex).

hope that helps- and ohh yeah, heres a few pics of the real skimboarding that I take part in...

-heres the type of waves we look for-

-heres what we look like skimming them-

-heres what our carbon fiber boards look like...-

hope that helps even though I got off topic...- in the end, I think I would be a bit worried about how much this new hood would inhibit the SC's ability to withstand a wreck. Carbon fiber is strong, but it cracks under high stress ( a problem several sailors are having with carbon fiber mast)...

12,000? That's only like 100 US Dollars?!

Can you guys get carbon boards covered with a layer of kevlar? That's what we do for bike fairings. The carbon provides the strength, but can't stand up to sliding down the road. The kevlar is nearly impossible to scrape through, but has no rigidity......

Exclamation double sidedness

The hoods should be available in 2 months from now.
The pic is just so you get an idea, it a photoshop.

When our hood is in stock I will update our website
with detailed pics like I did with the other hoods. The quality is beyond that of any other hoods made in the US or China, better than all the hoods I saw at the Tokyo Auto Salan 2003.

Also we just purchased a JDM trunk (same as far as I know) we will make this in carbon fiber as well, but I was wondering is there any difference between the stock JDM flush mount wing and the USDM one? Thanks.

I'm fairly positive there is no difference in the wing. I don't care about the wing though. Trying to save weight with CF not add it. Props for bringing CF to the SC.

Ted - Why not just pick up a US Spec trunk at a junk yard instead of a JDM one? They should be same however...do you have any solutions for the issues that were listed?

Ted,
thanx for replying here. We'd appreciate some updates (pics especially) on progress so that we keep the interest alive. I really don't like the idea of the fastener look on my SC, so if there's anyway the hood can be secured w/o external fasterners, that would be preferable (for me at least).
With respect to the trunk, I didn't think the stock one weighed very much to begin with?? It's the stock hood that weighs a ton. Put me down for a CF hood.
TIA!
