I was working on my sc because the idle was so rough it turned off every once in a while. i was told it was the TPS so i adjusted it and it was running so smooth. Up until i turned it off, I tried turning it back on and it doesnt want to turn on. Anyone know a solution?

 

Could be anything. Gut feeling is ECU. Of all of the powertrain issues I've had, coils, MAF, and ECU, none of them have created issues with starting....but your ECU could be so spent it's done.

 

Rough idle is kinda common on these motors. TPS is often to blame if recently touched (or even looked at or whispered to)

ECU as mentioned above.

Also, if your valve covers are leaking, your coil boots/coilpacks are gonna have a bad time.

 

Have you pulled any codes yet. That would be where I would start to get some direction.You will get a code for the TPS or the ECU if that is the problem. I would also vote for the ECU. I live in Florida and like California the hot weather is hell on the ECU's capacitors. Good luck and keep us posted.

 

Hmm, I would think its the IACV. My TPS is not calibrated so when i drive and slowly let go of the gas, the rpm would drop really fast and go back up if I engage.

 

By cleaning the IACV, it REALLY made it difference in idle. Its all the carbon build up from the intake manifold to where the sensor can't read anything. A quick spray of brake cleaner and a towel will do the trick

 

I believe there is a way to bypass the TPS and jump the car just to see if it starts. If it starts, that's your problem. if it doesn't start, then there's something else. These headache SC's are just a process of elimination when you have engine issues especially if you're OBD1.
