Default Tek One Autoworks - My experience

I'm new to the Clublexus Forum but I've had my 96 SC300 for over 2 years now.
In February this year I decided to have my overhaul my 2JZGE. My "family mechanic" did a complete overhaul on my 2J. It got new pistons, rings, ACL Race bearings, 2jzgte headgasket, ARP head studs, head work, new water pump, oil pump, Gates timing belt and all timing components, new NGK plugs and wires, & new fuel filter along with new trans and motor mounts. I also removed the entire AC system for weight reduction and also because the compressor failed on me. I had also removed the complete EGR system.
Also, I installed an MK3 R154 5 speed trans to complete the build with a 5mt ECU.
After my mechanic completed the motor, I mated the block with the R154 and shoved the whole thing in the engine bay.
After everything was buttoned up and plumbed, I filled what needed to filled with the appropriate fluids.
Upon the first start up, it started up but the idle was horrible and not even close to 500 rpm. After attempting several things to get the idle to be normal, I ran out of options. Other mechanics couldn't figure out what the problem was either. It wasn't just a problem with idle. It seemed to have a weird issue with timing.
My "family mechanic" decided to ignore me and play the dumb, confused guy.
Anyway, after trying to figure out which shop to take my car to I realized that I didn't want to take it just to any shop because I didn't want a general mechanic messing around with my motor.
So I called Aaron at Driftmotion and he recommended Alex from Tek One Autoworks in Riverside. Now Tek One is about 60 miles from my house. I gave Alex from Tek One a call about the problem with the car and he was very knowledgeable and very welcoming. So once I got Triple A to tow my car (for free) 60 miles to Tek One Autoworks, I arrive there and notice all the performance cars Alex was working on so I felt relieved in that Alex knew exactly what to do with my car.
Alex and his team figured out all the problems with my car and the weird timing problem. He treated me like family. He kept me very updated on the issues and solutions for my car.
It turned out that the mechanic had put on the exhaust cam gear on reverse meaning the front side of it was now facing backwards. Alex also perfected the auto-to-stick swap and properly ran the neutral bypass switch wiring and also the speedometer. He also made sure the clutch and flywheel assembly was properly set since there was also a problem with that.
Tek One was amazing! Their rates are also really good. They paid so much attention to detail that they informed me which parts would have to be replaced later on. Parts from the biggest to the smallest. He even mentioned 2 gauge cluster bulbs were out. He's not the type of mechanic that will fix the issue you came for and let you go home with other problems they wouldn't mention.
To top it off, Alex test drove my car and gave me the 'ok' to pick it up. We rode together to test drive it myself and he made sure I was completely satisfied with the work. When I drove back home in those 60 miles, Alex sent me a text to make sure the car made it home without problems. Does your shop mechanic care that much?
I would highly recommend Alex and his team at Tek One Autoworks. They're awesome! They work on SCs, Supras, 3000GT, Mustang, GTO, 300zx, 350z...everything! Give them a call (951) 354-6686

Glad it worked out, they sound like a really good shop. For what it's worth you really shouldn't get a general mechanic to attempt specialist work like that. It's one thing replacing an original part that failed with a brand new one, but overhauls and aftermarket performance parts and such should be done by a performance shop geared for it. Now let's get some pics and a video!

I'm not an employee at Tek One Autoworks. I was a customer to them. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon.
