How bad is it?
Has anyone else tried putting their SC4 in L and then redlining it, put your car in 2 and hit redline and then D.
This seems to be significantly faster than staying in D and using power mode.
Just wondering how bad this is killing the tranny or any of the auto clutches.
I'd say this is how they get their 6.8 0-60 time. I can't even come close g-teching my car any other way.
Any thoughts?
By the way i've only tried this a couple times.

the lexus manual does that. im curious as to how much extra stress this puts on our trannies. does anybody know? im guessing its not as bad as neutral dropping, but is it as bad as powerbraking? like to the point where youd only do it for an occassional race? or is it ok to do this in normal driving for the fun of it? i know the sc4 tranny is a tad different than most in some ways, with the fact that overdrive being on all the time doesnt wear out the tranny like it does on lesser cars...but i dunno if its any different in regards to the semi manual shifting
Should be okay to shift like this normally, just puts more wear on the powertrain since you will be redlining instead of shifting around 2-3k rpm (also drinks up all your gas!). However, I find better results by launching with a powerbrake start in 2nd and shifting to Drive after the 2nd gear redlines. Putting it in Low gear doesn't help much, IMO, since it's such a short gear, the lag between 1st and 2nd seems to nullify the power gain. Plus 2nd gear is good to 60-70mph and I usually don't run faster than that on city streets.
