'92 & '97 Auto-Man Swap Work both ways?
Here is the deal and i searched without finding the answer i want. I have a 97 SC300 auto and looking at a 92 SC300 5 spd to buy today. Want to know if the year difference will cause me trouble swapping transmissions both ways. And really my main concern is getting the 92 working properly with the 97 auto setup so i can sell it. If its only a matter of getting a 1992 ecu that would be ok, sure plenty of people chunk those, but i have a sneaky suspicion my newer auto wont play nice on older tech. Although according to wiki no changes to auto were made.
Yes it will be different because the 97 is OBD2. That means the cars got a lot more sensors and electronics that keep it running. There is a few threads on swapping a manual tranny into a 97, but its not as easy as swapping parts.
The mechanics will be the same as swapping a manual into a 92, but there will be a lot more work with the electical.
