Default steering wheel restoration

I am thinking of getting my tan steering wheel rewrapped to address the shiny / flaky look of it.

I know tan and 4 spoke is seen as uncool, but I wanted to retain the originality of the car..

it's going to cost a little less than $300, so I was wondering what you guys think. Although no one is going to pay attention except for me.

The new wrap seems legit and looks great. I still say swap for an upgrade if you are willing to pay that. Up to you.

I vote keep it original, if it was auto. Since it's manual though, maybe wrap is better. I'm all for originality though...

I opted to upgrade to an MR2 wheel with an IS airbag (same exact steering wheel) beccause I wanted more of a sports feel in my hands. I changed the steering column cover to a factory black piece to match. For a driver-oriented build I think that's the best way to go. The factory wheel does have classic charm though if you're not restomodding into a sports machine style and don't have an overly tight suspension.

I like their work, OP. Nothing wrong with getting your factory wheel restored. The only SC steering wheel specialist I knew of before your post was a guy who restores Soarer wheels in Australia. I say go for it.

Screw that, 3 spoke wheel all the way and if you're lucky you'll spend less than $300 as well.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-03-LEXUS-RX300-AIR-BAG-AND-STEERING-WHEEL-/290962227705?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43beb341f9&vxp=mtr
There, $150 free shipping (it's best offer too you could probably get it for $135)

Then, you could sell your old steering wheel/airbag for $50-75.

Basically you can do an RX wheel for $100 or less if you're smart about it. Just make sure you've got a good clockspring for it.

I bought a three spoke for mine and sent it off to Craft Customs in Rockwall, Tx to have it redone. They are adding 1/16" of padding to it to make it thicker and all new leather to match airbag I sent with it. $300.00. I will be pulling my four spoke out that is a 9.5/10 if your interested.
